Tabula Rasa

-
There is something comforting in taking down the decorations after Christmas. We’ve put them up with such zest and enthusiasm: a bow here, another sprig of holly there. They’ve been the backdrop of festive celebrations among warm family and friends. Now it’s all over, behind us, forever past. The tree can be dismantled, the baubles and stars put in boxes to be stored in the attic. A vacuum cleaner roars loudly while it picks up the last needles.
This is how our mothers and grandmothers must have felt while they were doing their spring cleaning. Content in cleansing the home to get ready for a fresh start. Throw out the old stuff! This is a new beginning! Tabula rasa!
